Peanuts
Peanuts or groundnuts were first cultivated in South America, but have now spread across sub tropical latitudes in both hemispheres. Although global production is massive, involving many million of tonnes per annum, the majority is consumed locally or used for groundnut oil. We specialise in the sourcing of edible peanuts and those for wild bird feeding for international trade.
There are four main types of peanut, Spanish, Runner, Virginia and Valencia, each with particular characteristics of flavour, oil content , size and shape and giving them a preference for a particular use.
The main origins for traded peanuts are the USA, Argentina, China and India, but we also source product from Brazil, Nicaragua, South Africa, Ghana, Sudan, Senegal and several other countries. We are able to source the best peanut for a customer’s need from the most economic origin at any given time.
As an annual crop, output can vary greatly in each particular region from year to year as a result of acreage planted and yield. Furthermore, national farm support programmes, taxes and currency movements can affect the price at each origin in different ways in different years. As global merchants with many years experience we are ideally placed to arrange the best supply for our customer’s needs.
