Walnuts

Although over 200,000 metric tonnes of walnuts are traded internationally each year it remains a specialist market. The major exporting countries are the USA and China with the major market being the EU. Trends over the past 20 years have seen a fading of the ‘in shell’ market and of Indian origin product whilst improved variety of trees and better management of both the orchards and the processing plants has led to improvements in Chinese production.

We specialise in sourcing product from China and have excellent relations with reliable suppliers of “Northern Style” material from Shanxi, Hebei and Gensu provinces as well as “Southern Style” walnuts from Yunnan Province. This allows us to meet customer requirements for most sizes and colours. Our broad supply and customer base allows us to supply either container load quantities direct from the vessel or pallet sized quantities via the store.

We are able to bridge the gap between origin availability in the first quarter of the year and main customer demand in the Autumn by storing goods in temperature controlled conditions in European stores pending customer call off. We also have suppliers of Indian, East European, Chilean, American and French walnut kernels.
